Iceberg Slim Reading Order
2 series · 10 books · Born 1918
Robert Beck, writing under the pen name Iceberg Slim, transformed his experience as a Chicago pimp into raw, unflinching literature that became a cultural phenomenon. His 1967 debut memoir Pimp: The Story of My Life, detailing his rise and fall within the criminal underworld, achieved remarkable commercial success and helped establish a new subgenre of urban autobiography. Slim's gritty, street-level narratives and unvarnished prose style influenced decades of writers working in crime fiction and urban literature, cementing his legacy as a pioneering voice in capturing the American criminal underground.
